Look around…

My commute has been the same for more than five years. I work in the same office in one city, and live in the same area of another city, and have driven essentially the same route each working day.

It’s so easy to lose sight of what goes on around you. You become acclimatised to the normal surroundings, and miss what’s just outside your eyesight.

Stop.

Literally.

On the way home this evening I stopped, parked my car at the roadside and looked up. I saw silhouetted trees, smelt grass, heard dogs barking and the engines and tyre grumble of the occasional car going past.

But mostly I saw the light of the sun as it played on the edges of the clouds and the incredible orange and yellow as it gradually set.

And after three minutes, I resumed my journey.

Note to self: pause for breath sometimes. It changes the day.
